Floride Smith Dean Music ScholarshipThis scholarship was given by Mrs. Floride Smith Dean of Belton, SC. Mrs. Dean was a past president of the SCFMC and a piano teacher for 60 years. Begun in 2000 as an endowed piano scholarship, this is her bequest to the state federation. The yearly award is $1000.00 with $500.00 paid at the beginning of each semester. The scholarship may be retained for 4 years for a total of $4000.00 upon the recommendation of the recipient's piano instructor and the academic dean, and at the discretion of the committee. State chairman must make known the availability of the scholarship.Qualifications

  • Student to study for music degree in piano
  • Resident of SC
  • Attend recognized school of music in a college or university in SC
  • Scholastic average in high school of 3.0 (out of a 4.0+ scale)

Application Requirements

  • Deadline to apply April 1
  • Audition limited to 15 minutes
  • Memorization not necessary
  • Fee of $5.00 due at audition
  • Sound theory background a prerequisite
    (Judges reserve the right to withhold award if no candidates meet qualifications.)
  • Mail transcript with application

    Audition Place and Time to be determined by the Chairman.

The Glad Robinson Youse Adult Composers Contest 

The purpose of this contest is to promote American Music and encourage American Composers whose compositions have not been published.

Qualifications

Eligible composers must be active members of currently federated Senior Clubs of Senior Organizations (not associates), or active Senior Special Members with $50. dues paid by October 1 of the contest year. One composition in any of the following categories may be submitted: piano or electronic keyboard solo or duet (2-10 minutes); wind or string solo with or without accompaniment(2-10min); chamber music (4-10 min); vocal solo (2-4 min); SSA or SATB Choral (2-6 minutes). Electronic instrumental compositions not accepted except for electronic keyboard). Applicant must be a natural or naturalized citizen of the USA.

Other

Cornelia R. Freeman Awards 

An award will be given to the state Stillman-Kelley Auditions winner and awards to South Carolina entrants in the Young Artist Auditions of the NFMC who participate in the NFMC semi-finals.

Qualifications

The award to the winner of the Stillmann-Kelley Auditions will be a Certificate and a card or letter for the teacher notifying the teacher of the forthcoming payment of $200 toward the winner's continued study. The award of $250 will be given to a young musician with a permanent SC address who competes in the NFMC Young Artist semi-finals. A certificate will be presented.
